The media is recognizing that our quaint small village is "movin' on up". The Columbus Dispatch ran an article on Sunday, February 7th. They were interested in the dynamics of Bremen because we always seem to have things going on compared to other small communities. What an honor to have a metropolitan city newspaper notice and wonder what makes small towns tick.

In addition, Innerphase Video will be filming a special edition of "Stuff with Jack Greathouse" at the Historical Society February 20th at 10am. This will air on Time Warner Channel 6/Digital 9 on February 22nd through the 24th. Times have not been released as of yet, so just tune in and you'll see for yourself. Sponsors for the program are Superior Fibers, Bremen Banking Center, Westerman Companies, and Morgan Funeral Home. Many thanks to these businesses for supporting Bremen.

Smithsonian Institute Exhibition

Smithsonian Institute Exhibition Coming to Bremen
Another Smithsonian Institute Exhibition is coming to Bremen for the month of February. Between Fences is a Museum on Main Street exhibition developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service.

The exhibition is about our homes and the land on which they are built. It's the story of the settling of the United States and the creation of communities. It's about different kinds of fences, where they're used, and the materials used to make them. It’s about why people build fences. It's about intimacy and conflict, creativity, and industry. Between Fences is about defining ourselves as Americans—our philosophies, our lifestyles, our values and beliefs, our national ethos, and our national borders.

The exhibition consists of an introduction, five content sections, and a conclusion. The sections of the display are: This Land Is My Land, Farm and Fence, Don’t Fence Me In, Good Fences Make Good Neighbors, and Building Borders. The Bremen Area Historical Society will also have local displays to make the exhibition more pertinent to our area. Activities will be offered to make the exhibition more interactive.

Museum on Main Street is a partnership between the Smithsonian Institution, The Federation of State Humanities Councils, and state humanities councils nationwide that serves small-town museums and citizens. This innovative project brings rural America one-of-a-kind access to prestigious Smithsonian exhibitions and first-rate educational humanities programs. Most importantly, Museum on Main Street enables rural museums to demonstrate their enormous talents and their meaningful contributions to small-town life. Like all Museum on Main Street exhibitions, Between Fences was specifically designed to meet the needs of small institutions. Between Fences was made possible through the generous support of the United States Congress. The sites chosen in Ohio are also supported by the Ohio Humanities Council.

This special event will be the premiere activity for the newly completed museum wing of the Bremen Area Historical Society's Museum/Community Center located in Bremen. Everyone is encouraged to visit the exhibition and see the recent improvements of the facility. The exhibition is free and open to the general public. Hours of operation will vary.
